CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, USA - Space-Ray of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been awarded a U. S. patent for its unique Windbuster™ Pilot Ignition System that is standard on all of single jet and radiant gas brooders used in poultry houses.

The Windbuster™ system enhances flame stability and provides dependable ignition for virtually trouble free operation, even at wind speeds of up to 7 mph (11.2 km/hr) in tunnel ventilated and other types of poultry houses.   

The U. S. patent awarded is No. 7,086,855  "Apparatus Having Improved Wind Resistance That Is an Synergistic Combination of a Windshield and a Brooder Heater Pilot Assembly." "More often than not, in tunnel ventilated houses the wind speed created by the fans can cause nuisance pilot outages on many current pilot designs of different types of gas brooders," noted Wilf Jackson, Sales Director of Space-Ray's Poultry Products Division. "Our unique Wind-Buster™ Pilot Ignition System keeps the pilot light operating even at wind speeds up to 7 mph (11.2 km/hr) thus increasing the system's reliability to keep the birds warm without interruption."

Installation Described
The Windbuster™ pilot ignition system is housed in a maintenance-friendly stainless steel assembly that allows easy access to the pilot orifice for cleaning purposes.  Also included is perforated stainless steel cover that acts as a windshield and easily lifts off for periodic maintenance needs.

The new SRB40EZ (Easy to Clean and Maintain) American-made Space-Ray series of gas brooders come with aluminum or optional spun steel canopies. The entire control arm will drop down which allows easy access to the main burner orifice.  Also standard on the SRB40EZ is an easily replaceable push on style thermocouple.

All Space-Ray brooders are CSA design certified and many carry the CE mark and can be used in both single and multi-zone installations.  Each brooder has as standard equipment a 100 percent gas safety shut-off valve and a flame failure safety device.

The Space-Ray single jet brooder burner has a 30,000 BTU/hr (8.80 kW) capacity. It fires a flame onto a ceramic element, directing the radiant heat to the bird and litter area. An easy leveling, low profile mounting bracket is standard with all Space-Ray brooders for easy installation. This low profile mounting bracket also allows the brooder to be raised an additional 3.5 in. (9.0 cm) which provides more room for clearance at the end of each flock. On single jet brooders, Space-Ray's main burner head is made of solid brass and the main burner line of high-grade stainless steel for strength and durability.  Different size aluminum canopies are available for optimum reflectivity. For easy installation, the brooder comes with factory-assembled components.

The Space-Ray Model SRB40EZ radiant gas brooder has a 40,000 BTU/hr capacity and incorporates a stainless steel gas line for strength and durability.

Unlike space heaters that work from the top down heating the air and the upper areas of the poultry house before stratifying down to heat the birds, Space-Ray radiant gas brooders operate using the same principle as the sun's rays. They deliver radiant warmth directly to the floor and litter area where it is needed most.
