HIGH PRESSURE CIRCULAR RADIANT GAS BROODERS
IDEAL FOR FARROWING, PIG AND POULTRY OPERATIONS

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina USA --- A new line of energy efficient high pressure radiant gas brooders with a unique circular design that allows spreading of heat over a wide circular area for added fuel savings and performance is now available from Space-Ray of Charlotte, N.C.

Available in natural or propane gas, the new SHP17B Space-Ray brooders use no electricity and are ideal for new or retrofit replacements for other types of high-pressure brooders in farrowing, pig and poultry applications. In most cases, individual brooders can be replaced without additional cost.

Fuel savings are realized since radiant warmth of the new brooder is delivered directly to the ground level where it is needed most, providing comfort for up to 170 pigs, up to 1,500 broilers and up to 500 turkeys.

Heater capacity ranges from 2,559 BTU/Hr to 17,000 BTU/Hr, (0.75 kw to 5.01 kw), mounting heights are from 48 to 60 in. (2,120 to 1,520 mm) above the floor.

Features Noted

The SHP17B brooders feature a durable stainless steel canopy, two orifices and a unique double gas burner system.

The stainless steel canopy adds extra strength and durability and is especially helpful if the brooders have to be relocated. The two-orifice system has a unique pressure adjustment capability that provides from high to low burn settings based on the heating needs of the structure. For preventive maintenance, the orifice holder is easy to clean and wash down.

Air Filter and Control Panel Options

An air filter is not required for reasonably clean environments since the brooder’s unique double gas burner system combusts dust and carbon to help prevent buildup.

For extra harsh agricultural environments, a stainless steel air filter is available as an option. A hose kit is also available as an accessory for new or existing operations.

An optional non-electric modulating control panel is available that automatically controls the brooders based on the thermostat’s requirements. As a result, the brooder offers one of the highest fuel efficiencies of any of its kind on the market.

Two economical High/Low control panels are also available that provide up to 20% lower fuel consumption by automatically adjusting the brooder's output from maximum heat to minimum heat output in seconds. Control panels come with an integral digital thermostat or a thermostat that can be remotely mounted.

"We are pleased to offer a high pressure circular brooder that heats an area efficiently and cheaply, providing the industry with one of the highest fuel efficiencies available." noted Wilf Jackson, Director of Sales & Marketing for Space-Ray. "This is a heater designed for performance and quality that achieves fuel savings of over 20% compared to alternative types of heating systems."

Radiant Brooder Principle

Unlike space heaters that work from the top down, heating the air and upper areas of an area first before heating the farrows, pigs or birds, the Space-Ray radiant gas brooders operate using the same principle as the sun’s rays.

Radiant warmth is delivered directly into the brooding area where it is needed most, passing heat directly to the floor area before heating the air. The radiant heat then helps dry out the floor, and the heated floor acts as a thermal reservoir trapping and recycling heat to save energy.

About Space-Ray

Space-Ray was the original designer of the radiant gas brooder in the U.S. With over 60 years of field experience and exposure to a variety of heating applications, Space-Ray heaters have withstood the test of time.

In addition to the SHP17B Series and the new Big Foot® tube brooder, Space-Ray also offers an energy efficient line of spark ignition radiant brooders, a line of single jet brooders and a complete line of both pull through (negative pressure) and push through (positive pressure) tube-type gas heaters for poultry applications.

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Space-Ray also has a facility located in Ipswich, England.
